The procedure
- Local anaesthesia with sedation or general anaesthesia
- Incision typically under the chin or behind the ears
- Platysma muscle tightened and excess fat removed via liposuction
- Excess skin excised and redraped; incisions closed with sutures
- Often combined with facelift for comprehensive rejuvenation
Recovery
- Swelling and bruising resolve over 10–14 days
- Soft diet and head elevation recommended initially
- Return to light activities after approximately 1 week
- Full contour improvement at approximately 3 months
Risks & considerations
Risks include infection, haematoma, nerve injury affecting sensation or movement, scarring, asymmetry, skin dimpling, and prolonged swelling. Smoking and hypertension elevate complication risks.
